Etymology

Romanian borrowed "interior" from French "intérieur" and Latin "interior", part of the wave of Latinate and French vocabulary that reshaped Romanian in the 19th century. The Latin word is itself the comparative form of "interus", meaning "inward" or "situated within". So the original sense was literally "more inward", later flattened to a plain noun and adjective for "inside".
