Etymology
Întreg descends from Latin integer, a word built from the negative prefix in- and a stem tied to tangere, "to touch." The literal sense was "untouched," and from there Latin extended it to mean "whole" or "intact." Romanian inherited the word directly through everyday speech, while later scholarly borrowing gave Romanian a second, more formal descendant of the same Latin root, integru.
