Etymology
Judeca comes from Latin iudicare, itself built from ius (law, right) and dicare (to proclaim, to pronounce). The verb passed into Romanian through ordinary spoken Latin, keeping its core sense of pronouncing a legal or moral verdict. The same Latin verb gave rise to close relatives across the Romance languages.
