Etymology
Romanian borrowed "magazin" from French "magasin" during the nineteenth-century modernization of Romanian vocabulary, when many everyday words were replaced with French equivalents. French itself took the word from Italian "magazzino", which came from Arabic "makhāzin", the plural of "makhzan", meaning storehouse. The same Arabic root, through different paths, gave English "magazine", though that word shifted in meaning from a storeroom to a periodical.
