Etymology
Mizerabil entered Romanian in the nineteenth century from French misérable, part of the wave of French borrowings that reshaped modern literary Romanian. Misérable in turn descends from Latin miserabilis, meaning pitiable or wretched, built from miser, unhappy or wretched, plus the suffix -abilis, able to be or worthy of. The same Latin root gave English miserable and misery, so the word is easy for an English speaker to recognize on sight.
