Etymology
Nimeri came into Romanian from Slavic, related to verbs like Bulgarian namери (to find) and Serbian namjeriti (to aim at, come across). Those Slavic forms build on a root tied to measuring or taking aim, so the base sense is close to hitting a mark. Romanian kept that stem and gave it the native infinitive ending -i, the pattern used for many verbs borrowed from Slavic. From hitting a mark, the meaning spread naturally to landing somewhere by chance or getting an answer right.
