Etymology
Nopți is the plural of noapte, night, which descends from Latin nox, noctis. Romanian kept the Latin noun almost intact while other Romance languages simplified the consonant cluster differently. The plural marker -i triggered the palatalization of pt to pț, a regular sound change in Romanian.
