Etymology
Romanian borrowed "paranoic" from French "paranoïaque", which was built on "paranoïa", itself taken from Greek. The Greek term joins "para-" (beside, beyond) with "nous" (mind), so the base sense is a mind gone beside itself. Romanian trimmed the French ending and attached the native adjectival suffix "-ic".
