Etymology
Romanian borrowed "post" from French "poste" during the nineteenth-century modernization of the language, when many administrative and military terms entered from French and, to a lesser extent, German. French "poste" itself goes back to Italian "posto", from Latin "positus", the past participle of "ponere", meaning to place. The core sense, a fixed place where someone or something is stationed, carried over directly into Romanian, covering jobs, broadcast stations, and guard duty alike.
