Etymology
Probă entered Romanian in the nineteenth century, part of the wave of French, Italian, and German borrowings that reshaped the language's vocabulary during that period. Dictionaries trace it to French preuve, Italian prova, and German Probe, all descending from Latin proba, a noun tied to the verb probare, to test or prove. That same Latin root also gave English proof and probe.
