Etymology
Romanian borrowed pușcă from a Slavic source, related to Old Slavic puška. The Slavic word originally denoted a hollow tube or small box, a sense that later narrowed to firearm because early guns were metal tubes. Romanian kept both the weapon sense and, in the diminutive pușculiță, the older box sense.
