Etymology
Ram comes from Latin ramus, meaning branch or bough. Romanian kept the word almost unchanged, while everyday speech shifted toward creangă for the plain sense of tree branch. Ram survived mainly as a literary and poetic term, prominent in nineteenth-century Romanian verse.
