Etymology
Referitor comes from the verb a referi, meaning to refer or to report, joined with the adjectival suffix -tor. A referi itself was borrowed from Latin referre, a compound of re- (back, again) and ferre (to carry, to bring). The same Latin verb gave Romanian its whole referi/referință family and gave English refer and reference.
