Etymology
Încât is formed from the prefix în- and cât, the Romanian word for "how much" or "as much". Cât descends from Latin quantum. The compound originally meant something like "to the extent that" and settled into its modern role as the conjunction introducing a result clause, almost always paired with atât de ("so") earlier in the sentence.
