Etymology
Rezervă entered Romanian from French réserve in the nineteenth century, part of the wave of French vocabulary that reshaped modern Romanian after centuries of Ottoman and Slavic influence. French réserve traces back to Latin reservare, built from re- (back) and servare (to keep, guard, preserve). The same Latin base gives English reserve, preserve, conserve, and observe.
