Etymology
Semen comes from an old Slavic word related to seed, borrowed into Romanian rather than inherited straight from Latin. That Slavic root is itself a distant cousin of the Latin word semen, meaning seed, which is also where English gets its own word semen. Over time the Romanian word drifted from seed to offspring to a person of the same human stock, and finally to fellow man. So the Romanian and English words look identical by coincidence of a shared ancient root, not because one borrowed from the other.
