Etymology

Separa comes from Latin separare, built from se- (apart, aside) and parare (to prepare, arrange, get ready). Romanian kept the verb almost unchanged from spoken Latin, the way it kept most of its core vocabulary. The same root parare also produced Romanian prepara and compara, and it entered English through Latin and French as prepare, compare, and separate itself.
