Sigur descends from Latin securus, meaning free from care or danger. The word passed into Romanian through everyday spoken Latin in the region, alongside the same root that gave Italian sicuro, French sûr, and Spanish seguro. Sigure is simply the feminine and neuter plural agreement form of this adjective. English sure and secure trace back to the same Latin source, borrowed later through French and directly from Latin respectively.
