Etymology
Telefonică is the feminine form of telefonic, an adjective built on the noun telefon, itself borrowed from French téléphone in the 19th century. The French word was coined from Greek tēle, meaning far, and phōnē, meaning voice or sound. Romanian added the adjectival suffix -ic, following the French téléphonique, and then the feminine ending -ă to agree with feminine nouns.
