Etymology

Părere comes from the Romanian verb a părea, meaning to seem or to appear. Romanian often turns an old infinitive form of a verb into an abstract noun, so părere literally started out as the nominalized infinitive of a părea, much like vedere (sight) comes from a vedea (to see). A părea itself descends from Latin parere, to appear or become visible. So an opinion, in the word's own logic, is simply how something appears to you.
