Etymology

Temperatură entered Romanian from French température in the nineteenth century, part of a broad effort to replace older Slavic and Greek loanwords with Latin-based vocabulary. French température comes from Latin temperatura, meaning a proper mixture or due proportion, from the verb temperare, to mix in the right measure or moderate. The same Latin root gives English temper and temperature.
