Etymology
Romanian borrowed "star" directly from English in the twentieth century, alongside the rise of cinema and mass media. It kept the English spelling and sense of a famous performer, and took on neuter gender, the default class for such loanwords. The native Romanian word for the celestial body, "stea", comes from Latin and is a separate, older word.
