Etymology
Testament comes from Latin testamentum, a formal declaration of a person's last wishes. Testamentum is built on testari, to bear witness or testify, which in turn comes from testis, a witness. Romanian inherited the word directly from Latin, and it kept both the legal sense of a will and the religious sense used for the Old and New Testament.
