Etymology
Zbor is a deverbal noun, formed from the verb a zbura, meaning to fly, by dropping the infinitive ending. The origin of zbura itself is disputed among Romanian etymologists. Some propose a development from Latin exvolare, ex- plus volare, to fly out, reshaped by later sound changes, while others argue for a pre-Roman substrate source. No cognate outside Romanian is established with confidence.
