Etymology
أَثْبَت is the Form IV verb built on the triliteral root ث-ب-ت, which carries the sense of firmness and standing fast. The base verb ثَبَتَ means to be firm or fixed in place. The Form IV pattern adds causative force, so the meaning shifts from being firm to making something firm, that is, establishing or proving it. The root is Semitic, reconstructed as Proto-Semitic *ṯ-b-t.
