Word family
Etymology
أَصْبَحَ comes from the triliteral root ص-ب-ح, which carries the idea of morning and brightness. In Form IV it first meant to enter upon the morning, or to find oneself in some state at daybreak. From there it widened to a general sense of becoming, and it now serves as one of the copular verbs that report a change of state. The same root gives صَباح, morning, and مِصْباح, lamp.
