أَنْهَى is the Form IV (causative) verb built on the Semitic root n-h-y, whose core sense is reaching a limit or an end. Form I نَهَى means to forbid, that is, to set a bound on someone. The causative shifts this to bringing something to its end, hence to finish or conclude. The related noun نِهَايَة means an end.
