Etymology
The word comes from the Arabic triliteral root ʾ-m-n, which carries the sense of safety, trust, and security. "Īmān" is the verbal noun of the form IV verb "āmana," meaning to believe or to have faith. The same root gives "amān" (safety) and "amīn" (trustworthy). The English "amen," borrowed through Hebrew, shares this Semitic root.
