Etymology
مُؤْمِن is the active participle of the Form IV verb آمَنَ, built on the Semitic root ء-م-ن, whose core sense is safety, security, and trust. The same root gives إيمان (faith) and أَمَان (safety), so a mu'min is literally one who has placed their trust securely, and by extension one who believes. Arabic is a Semitic language, not Indo-European, so it has no PIE root; the closest link is the shared Semitic root found in Hebrew.
