Etymology
The word comes from the Semitic root ض-م-ن (ḍ-m-n), which carries the sense of guaranteeing or holding something within bounds. Classical Arabic built a Form II verb, ضَمَّن (ḍammana), meaning to make something contain or include another thing. Taḍammana is the Form V reflexive of that verb, so it means to come to contain something within itself, that is, to include or comprise it. This root is native to Arabic and not connected to Indo-European vocabulary.
