Etymology
تَوَقَّع is the Form V verb built on the triliteral root و-ق-ع, whose base meaning is to fall or to occur. The تَفَعَّل pattern adds a reflexive sense, so the verb shifts from an event simply happening to a person holding that event in mind before it happens. The result is to expect or anticipate. The same root yields مَوْقِع (location) and وَاقِع (reality).
