Etymology
ذاكَ combines the old Semitic demonstrative base ذا, meaning 'this,' with the suffix ـكَ, which signals distance and points away from the speaker. The base goes back to Proto-Semitic *ḏā. The same element survives in Hebrew זֶה and Aramaic דָּא, where the original Semitic ḏ shifted to z and d respectively.
