Etymology

آمِن is the active participle of the verb أَمِنَ, 'to be safe or secure.' It grows from the Semitic root ʾ-m-n, which joins the ideas of firmness, trust, and safety. The same root yields Arabic إيمان, 'faith,' and أمان, 'safety,' and it stands behind the Hebrew word that English borrowed as 'amen.'
