Etymology
راسَل comes from the Semitic root ر-س-ل (r-s-l), which carries the sense of sending. The same root gives رسالة (letter, message) and رسول (messenger). The Form III pattern (فاعَل) added to this root turns a simple action into a mutual one, so راسَل means to send messages to someone and receive them in return, that is, to correspond.
