Etymology

رَحَب comes from the Semitic root r-ḥ-b, meaning wide or spacious. The same root gives the common greeting مرحباً, which originally welcomed a guest into ample space. Hebrew shares the root in raḥav, wide, and reḥov, a broad street. There is no Indo-European connection.
