Etymology

مَأْن is the verbal noun of مَأَنَ, from the Arabic root م-أ-ن, meaning to provide for or to bear the cost of. The same root gives مَؤُونة, the ordinary word for provisions and expenses. Arabic is a Semitic language, so the word has no Proto-Indo-European root.
