Etymology

The word derives from the triliteral root ص-ي-ر (ṣ-y-r), the base of the verb صارَ, meaning to become or to turn into. On the maf'il noun pattern, مَصِير names the place or point of becoming, that is, the end toward which a thing turns. The sense of a final outcome, and then of destiny, grew naturally from this.
