Etymology
رَحَّب comes from the triliteral Semitic root ر ح ب, whose basic sense is width or spaciousness. Doubling the middle radical produces the Form II verb, which carries a causative or intensive meaning: to make space for someone, and by extension to receive them warmly. The everyday greeting مرحبا (marḥaban), meaning hello or welcome, comes from the same root.
