Etymology
Sarā comes from the triliteral Semitic root س-ر-ي, tied specifically to movement under cover of darkness. Classical Arabic used it for caravans, travelers, and animals that moved at night to avoid the heat of the day. Its best-known derivative is al-isrā', the Night Journey named in the Quran, which fixed the root in religious and literary memory well beyond ordinary travel vocabulary.
