Etymology
فَم is the standard Arabic word for the mouth. It goes back to a Proto-Semitic word for mouth, *pay-, which also gave Hebrew פֶּה and Akkadian pû. Classical Arabic kept an older variant with a final weak letter, فو and فاه, used in the construct state, while فَم with a final م became the common independent form.
