Etymology
The word comes from the Semitic root ك ر ه (k-r-h), which carries the core idea of finding something disagreeable or repugnant. The suffix ـِيَّة (-iyya) turns the root into an abstract noun, much like '-ness' or '-ity' in English. This same suffix pattern gives Arabic many other abstract nouns, such as إنسانية (humanity) and مسؤولية (responsibility). Since Arabic is a Semitic language, it has no Indo-European ancestry, so no PIE root applies.
