مرغوب is the passive participle (ism al-maf'ul) built on the مفعول pattern from the verb رَغِبَ (raghiba, "he desired, wished for"), from the native Arabic triliteral root ر-غ-ب. Literally it means "that which is desired." Arabic is a Semitic language, so it has no Indo-European (PIE) root.
