نِزاع comes from the Arabic root ن-ز-ع, whose core sense is to pull out or wrench away. The verb نازَعَ, built on this root, added the sense of contending or pulling against someone, and its verbal noun نِزاع names the resulting conflict or dispute. The same root gives نَزْع, meaning extraction or withdrawal, and is also used for the struggle of death, as in نزع الموت. Arabic is a Semitic language, so it has no Indo-European root.
