Etymology
مَمْنُوع is the passive participle of the verb مَنَعَ, meaning to forbid or prevent, built from the triliteral Semitic root م-ن-ع. The root carries the core sense of withholding or blocking something. Classical Arabic dictionaries already use مَمْنُوع for things barred by law, custom, or physical obstruction, and the word kept that same sense into Modern Standard and colloquial Arabic.
