The word is the feminine passive participle of the verb نَظَّمَ (nazzama), "to organize, to arrange in order." That verb derives from the triliteral root ن-ظ-م (n-z-m), whose core sense is stringing things together, as in threading pearls. So an organization is literally a thing that has been put in order.
