Etymology
Έμπλεξα is the aorist (simple past) of the verb (ε)μπλέκω, which comes from ancient Greek εμπλέκω, itself built from the prefix εν- (in) and πλέκω (to weave, braid, plait). The literal sense was to weave something into something else. Over time this physical image of weaving shifted to the figurative sense of getting caught up or involved in a situation, often a troublesome one.
