Etymology

Κλικ is a direct loan from English click, a word that imitates the sound of a small mechanical snap. Greek adopted it in the twentieth century along with cameras, pens, and later computer mice. It came in as an invariable form, so Greek attaches it to the light verb κάνω (to do, to make) to build the action, since there was no native Greek verb for this exact sound-based gesture.
