Etymology
Έμφραγμα is built from the verb εμφράσσω, to block or stop up, itself formed from the prefix εν- (in) and φράσσω (to fence in, block). The suffix -μα marks the result of an action, so the word literally names the thing that has been blocked off. Modern Greek narrowed the medical sense to the blockage of a coronary artery, hence its everyday meaning of heart attack.
