Etymology
Αναπνοή is a noun built from the verb αναπνέω, to breathe, which itself joins the prefix ανα- (up, again) to πνέω (to blow, breathe). The root πνε- also gives πνεύμα (spirit, breath) and πνεύμων (lung). The ultimate origin of πνέω is debated among linguists; some treat it as an ancient, possibly imitative word for the sound of breath rather than a securely reconstructed root.
