Etymology
Γαμιέμαι is the medio-passive present of γαμώ, from Ancient Greek γαμέω, "to marry" (said of a man taking a wife). Over time the plain verb narrowed to its crude modern sense, "to fuck," and the passive form came to carry both a literal sexual meaning and, in slang, an idiomatic one: "δεν γαμιέμαι" means "I don't care," and the impersonal "γαμιέται" means "it's a mess." Etymologists do not agree on a secure origin for the root γαμ-, so no Indo-European root can be stated with confidence.
